YOUNGWOO LEE
Biography
Pianist Youngwoo Lee was born on 18th March in Seoul South Korea. He started playing piano and guitar at a young age. In his late teens, he started playing and performing Pop, Funk, Gospel while attending the prestigious Ahyeon music high school. Youngwoo continued to deepen his knowledge and formal education first at the acclaimed Howon University, and later at Conservatorium Van Amsterdam where he has deepened and specialized in Jazz and improvised music . He graduated at CvA with very hight grade 9.5 (Cum laude) for bachelor and master.
Currently bassed in Amsterdam and Seoul, Youngwoo is active performing and recording on the Dutch/ European scene, where he has won competitions including winning 1st prize in “Dutch Jazz Competition 2018’ and 2nd prize of Getxo international Jazz Award 2017 as part of the Sunmi Hong Quintet. Performances include North Jazz Festival 2018, Bimhuis to name a few. Currently He is leading his own Quartet with Jose Soares on Sax, Tijs Klaassen on Bass and Sunmi Hong on Drums.
